Education: B.A. in Psychology and Education at University of Adelaide; Ph.D. in Psychology at Oxford University.

Research interests: Tourist behaviour and management; Tourism research methodology; Tourist motivation and satisfaction: models, theories and measurement; Tourist attitudes and attitude change: studies of culture contact, environmental perception, destination image and orientation; Community attitudes to tourism: development issues, case studies and social representations; Tourism planning and the community impacts of tourism; Tourist attractions: planning, design, interpretation, crowds and density management; The analysis of specialist market segments: backpackers, visiting friends and relatives, self-drive market, specialist accommodation users; Tourism education.

Present positions: Program leader for both the Reef and Sustainable Tourism Co-operative Research Centres ● Memberships: International Academy for the study of Tourism; International Association for Scientific Experts in Tourism (AIEST).

Awards and acknowledgments: Fulbright Scholarship to Harvard University, 1981.
